The Big Red Blog: The Dental Episode

This week I struggle a little after a long afternoon at the dentist’s office. Luckily, Derek has lots of important things to say about Heroes, Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, The OC and Grey’s Anatomy. We also review the new series on Sci-Fi called The Dresden Files and I offer up a review of Mike Judge’s Idiocracy.

Plus we announce a special opportunity to participate in our upcoming Veronica Mars podcast event. It's as easy as sending an email to podcast(at)thebigredblog.com

Oh yeah.

Worlds we don't want to live in

Derek is back this week and he talks a little bit about this year's MIT Mystery Hunt Experience. I share a delightful story about how much my Dad loves 24.

We also bring in our really smart friend, Chris, to talk to us about popular music - a subject we are sorely lacking on in our pop culture podcast. He talks to us about critically acclaimed but overrated music from 2006 including works from Bob Dylan, Joanna Newsom, TV on the Radio, and The Hold Steady.

And of course we talk about lots of TV in the run up to sweeps including three shows worth checking out: Eureka, Extras and Psych.

I like you. I'll make you a mixed tape.

I didn't forget about you, don't worry!

This week Derek sleeps off his nerd hangover so I recruited my friend Salena to pitch hit. She does a good job as we discuss: How I Met Your Mother, Scrubs, The Office, Grey's Anatomy (why is "To Be Continued" even necessary?), Armed and Famous, Alec Baldwin's terrifying powers on 30 Rock, My Name is Earl, and we tease a little something we saw on the Internets about LOST and Veronica Mars.

Plus we wax nostalgic (ever so briefly) about Patrick Swayze, Dirty Dancing and slumber parties. Don't worry, we don't over-girl it.

Derek is not impressed by David Arquette

It is Sunday and another Sunday means another podcast.

This week Derek and I thank our nice fans for leaving us iTunes feedback. Then we review three new shows: In Case of Emergency, The Knights of Prosperity, and Dirt. I review Slither and Derek shares his insider view of the annual MIT Mystery Hunt. Plus we keep it under 30 minutes. Happy 2007!

The Year in Review

Derek and I managed to pull together a podcast before heading out for a night of debauchery (him) or being in bed by 10:30 (me). This week we attack the year in television - talking about shows that tried to do something daring and interesting and were successful and others who failed as they reached for greatness.

It happens.

Plus Derek shares his adventures working on a float for the Rose Bowl Parade and I give my first ever game review. Terrifying!

If you see a float with a big eagle on it and lots of teenagers singing, look at the black highlights on the right wing. That is Derek's handiwork!

And once again I plead for an Itunes review. Happy New Year!

Load up that player, we're going to grandma's house

I'm sure you're anxiously loading stuff onto your mp3 player to help make that long drive or flight to grandma's house a little easier. I know I am!

Might I offer up the latest episode of The Big Red Blog podcast? I lured Deeps into chatting with me about the Showtime series Dexter. I'll say it - Dexter is the best new show on television.

If you haven't watched the show or read the books and don't want to be spoiled, you should skip this week's installment. But if you'd like to hear about the most compelling and disturbing character on television then please, by all means, listen to this week's podcast!

Do Over! Do Over!

We were experimenting with a new podcast set-up, and while the sound wasn't that great I didn't realize how bad it turned out until today. So we've replaced the bad podcast from Sunday (podcast121706) with one recorded tonight with my very special co-host Deeps!

Oh yes, I finally lured him into helping me out on the podcast. We miss Derek, but I think Deeps and I can manage. This tried to recreate as much as we could from the previous podcast with better sound (although it could be better). So please enjoy!
